4 x 4 transfer case
I just bought a 1975 Ford Ranger 4 x4 F100. I think the transfer case may be bad. My question is, I found a transfer case from a F250 1978, would it fit? It has a 4 speed tranny. Are these interchangable? Thanks for any info.

Most 73-77 1/2 NP205 transfer cases were divorced or mounted seperate from the transmission. 78 - 79's were mounted directly to the transmission (married). Im not sure if early NP203 cases were divorced or married. If your transfer case is not directly bolted to the transmission the '78 most likely won't work.

It depends on what transfer case is in your truck. Is it a NP203, NP205 or a Dana 21? If you have the 203 or dana they won't work. If you have a 205 it should work. The Dana 21 only has High range no low range. I had one in my '75 F100. Hope this helps. Brian

My 75 ford has a married transfer case. How do I tell which model # I have. NP203??? The one I am looking at is on ebay. It has pictures of it. If you do search on "Ford 4x4 transfer case" it should come up. The reason I think mine is bad is when I try to shift the transfer case it will not go into any gear. it stays in neutral. It is just a 2 range (hi and lo setting) Thanks for the info.
