Were you able to order a ford custom with dent trim that has vinyl inserts? I was wondering able this because the 1976 ford light truck selector says “BRIGHT BODYSIDE MOLDING WITH VINYL INSERT-Adds to the pleasing appearance of Custom Styleside pickups and protects bodyside against minor damage.Full-length molding has tough black vinyl insert.”
Also the ford truck dealer brochure show on the custom page a truck that has that trim.
Welcome to FTE Canohb! Yes, way back then, you could actually "order" what you wanted and didn't want. My 77 F150 4x/custom has the molding with vinyl, delay wipers, NO cig lighter, Aux fuel tank, I keep meaning to do a Marti Report on it, my 79 F250 4x/custom just had the bright molding with no vinyl, the "Custom" being the base model, you could actually customize it.
My '77 is and always has been a "Custom", but it originally had the wide "dent" trim and the race track, was two tone, had the trim around the back of cab under the back glass too. Tailgate had the two trim strips across it too, tail lights were trimmed too and the rear bumper was the chromed non step type. Front bumper still has it's bumper guards and rubber strips. Had the narrow chrome look mylar lock strip in the windshield rubber. When purchased (in 1986), it had already been repainted but it still had all of it's trim. In two steps (in 1989 and 2022), I've removed that trim as it had acquired issues. I still have the wider dent strips and the rear most ends for using it with or without the race track. I removed the bed rails in the '90s, a dear friend wanted a set and they didn't suit my needs.
i have a 78 short bed 4x4 custom with the racetrack trim and sport steering wheel. also a 79 bronco custom with gt bar, quad shocks, cruise control, intermittent wipers, tow hooks and wood grain door panels w/map pockets. no exterior trim with painted bumpers.
seems like you could get them anyway you wanted.
Loved it when options ruled the day, I have a 2012 XLT with a delete carpet for a credit with auto lamps and remote start. Also, an 81 XR7 with 302 AOD with vinyl roof delete, ugly by today's standards but in the day was the future.
