Hi all,
I have a C6 transmission, just had the engine mounts and transmission mount replaced. The truck now won't start in park, will start in neutral only. I have tried adjusting the Neutral Safety Switch (which is new) but no improvement
I have tried adjusting the shift linkage which is out by about 1/2", but when the alignment is correct I cannot put the column shift in park.
Is this a problem with the actual column shift? Is there a way to adjust this?
I figure it is something to do with the transmission gate, but I can't find anything on the interweb that even shows me where that is located
Before you ask, the guys that did the mount replacement are people I won't use again - really don't want to take my truck back to them.
What do your cab mounts look like? Is the cab sitting on the frame? That can throw this off.
You might want to adjust it mechanically so you can get the lever to work and get all the gears. And then put it in park, get under the truck and unplug the neutral safety switch. Get a meter and put it on ohms rx1 and then probe the two connections from the switch that go to the two red/blue wires in the truck's harness. Then adjust the switch till the meter reads near zero (continuity). Once you get that, it should start. This may take some of the guessing out of the adjustment.
If you have a Haynes or Chilton handbook, the adjustment procedures for both the shift linkage & the NSS are given. The linkage adjustment needs to be set first.
Thanks Ken,
I have adjusted both the linkage and the NSS. The linkage slides into place smoothly without any movement to the linkages. The NSS has been adjusted. Both were done following the Haynes Manual instructions.
The shift indicator (on the steering column) shows the truck is in reverse when it is in park. I'm sure there must be a way to adjust the detent bracket, just can't find how to do it!
Who looks at the indicator as the pattern has never been changed in 100 years!
If the lever mover the transmission in and out of all the gears then I think the needle can be adjusted as it moves by a string.
When you pull the gauge bezel be careful of the string and once apart you should be able to see what it will take to make it read right.

Yes.....after the heavy plastic sleeve & dash bezel are removed, the adjustable anchor of that string can be seen.
Loosen it and slide it up or down, to match the indicator needle to the shifter position.
