Mine did it for the first like 2k miles, intermittently but usually only after a mile of so when starting the truck up. 7.3, nothing on the roads, dry or wet still occurs. Popped the hood and it smells like a belt. I didn't visually see any issues, no belt rubbing, wear marks, etc. So I only assume it new parts heat cycling and breaking in. I rarely smell it now with 5k on the truck, like maybe once a week for a few seconds and that's it. Following to see if there is any resolution or issue I need to be made aware of.
Probably different smells that are being lumped together.
Regen smells like being behind an F-18 afterburner cat launch right after a fresh anti skid has been applied to the deck - to me. Odd memory but that is a very unique smell doing sea trials on a fresh deck and lasts a short time. Not quite the smell of burning rubber, but more like new tire smell after the first drive x 10.
Then we have the burning belt smell.
It wouldn't surprise me if these are all different things and one persons "smells like rubber" is a different persons "smells like fuel burning".

I’ve got 22k on mine. Didn’t start until later. Don’t know the miles it started but started smelling it end of last year.
Found the source of the burning smell, trans leaking in the cooler / bellhousing area and spraying on the exhaust. Booked in for next week at the dealer.
Thought I found my source with a power steering hose leak, burning rubber smell went away for a while after it was repaired but is back again.
On a side note...my dealer is 1.5 hrs away, they sent a mobile tech out to change the power steering hose saving me 3 hrs windshield time.

Initially, it looked like a PS leak to me, maybe both…..
