I have a 2003 ram 1500 and the 4.7 v8 that it has is having the dump hemi tic issues and is probably on its way out some day and I think it's a smart idea to get a Ford 300 inline 6 engine swap for it and I'm wondering what do I need to the swap like transmission and electrical system
welcome. the 300 six is a fantastic engine, but will not be a very easy replacement choice.
unfortunately you will have to fabricate everything yourself to make it work in the dodge.
for the transmission, easiest would be a ZF5 manual, or a C-6 automatic. but the C-6 does not have overdrive.
Lifter tick if caught early is not fatal, in fact you may get away with simply replacing the affected lifter.
As for the engine swap, anything is possible but you'll essentially end up with a farm truck.. the engine and truck will be completely separate entities that will not communicate with one another.
It can be done, but it won't be easy as there is absolutely no aftermarket support for a swap like that. So all the conversion parts will have to be custom made. You'll also end up with more lights on the dash than your last Christmas tree.
The real question ,,,, why put that much work into a Dodge truck? It's not like Dodge has the best chassis, or suspensions, or interiors, they're literally the worst of the big three. If you want to swap a 300 straight six into something, pick a better place to put it than into a Dodge truck.

Hey man, so you got this dodge ute you like and you want to make that engine fit...if youre good with your hands, you can make it fit and work... Ford inline 6, awesome engine, thats fact...there will be lots of headaches with the wiring, but not impossible. Heaps easier options out there, ie diesel swap! .. youre welcome.
Just remove the bulbs you dont wanna see... less stress already!
It comes down to patience and finance... and will you be doing most of the work.
Swaps are easy, its all the stuff you cant do, that will do your head in.
Dont forget to add pictures!

Does the OP live in an area that has vehicle inspections and/or emissions testing? Is so, then you are left with…

I would be driving it while on the hunt for a replacement 4.7L engine. That would be a lot easier and cheaper than trying to get the 300 to work in the Dodge.

I just thought his thread being in the 'engine swap' forum, he wants to do something different, and not swap for the same thing... but yeah, that would be easy and cheap, pretty much should be left for a dodge forum.

Doing something different is fine as long as the OP can still get/keep the truck registered.
