Radiator core support
I need to replace the rubber cab bushing including the core support ones. I figured I could do a repair at the same time.
I can tell there was basically two piece that are lapped over each other, it also looks like this on pictures of new one.
I am sure this is a common rust areas. The panels aren’t terribly expensive but the shipping is the same cost as the panel.
Do most people just weld in patch panels? I can brake metal and weld.
The sleeves that go through the bushings are two pieces and just fit together via tension. If they're really old, they might be rusted/fused together.
It's good to know that the radiator support sleeves bolt in from above. I saw a nut on the bottom sleeve and thought I would be able to break it loose from below using an impact gun.
I was wrong...I ended up cutting through the sleeve and bolt just above the frame w/ a sawzall and replace w/ all new hardware.
For the cab mounts, use lots of penetrating oil and heat if necessary. I broke the front cab mounts from below using an impact gun while holding on to the top bolt w/ a ratchet inside the little access hole. The rear bolts I think I broke loose from above.
For patch panels, yes, cut and weld them in.
