Exhaust manifold question

I have a 1983 F150 w/4.9L WITH ALL THE EMISSIONS AND SMOG CRAP REMOVED. My old exhaust manifold had a crack in it, so I purchased a new one. The new manifold has 2 plugs in it and one seems to have a small hole drilled in it. Is this for the EGR valve? And if so can I remove it and insert a plug in it's place since I don't run an EGR? And if not, what is this plug with a hole in it? Thanks in advance.

Yes, just get a pipe plug and install it.

Your welcome, that is a pretty common thing to do. I've even used a bolt to plug a EGT probe port on the turbocharged Subaru.

It may be the hole for the choke tube. If that is the case, you could leave the hole open and no harm would be done. You could squirt a can of brake cleaner in the hole, and see if it comes out inside the manifold, or just goes right on through to another small hole. If it goes right on through, it's the choke tube hole.

If you could post up a picture of said holes we might be able to tell you just that they are for.

Oh, come on now, why would just anyone post pictures, just so we all could see the issue, they are asking about... I know some of the newer, younger people may not know how to post pictures on the forum...

Because I am a "show me" type
If it was not so cold I would check the log manifold in the garage.
I can only think of the small holes for the choke tubes and the large hole for the EGR tube.
So I am guessing it is the EGR. IIRC the old manifolds uses adapter and think the manifold side is pipe thread 1/2" or 3/4" at most.

exhaust manifold

Thanks to all responders, it is the choke hole. No need to plug the hole as it does not go into the exhaust chamber. If I had used common sense I would have figured it out sooner than later since there is a similar hole on the top side of the manifold for an optional position to use.

If you have choke problems, you may need to utilize that hole. We can help you with that if that turns out to be a problem.
