I went to start my 2024 F350 yesterday after sitting a couple days waiting out the snow storms moving through and realized the truck would not start with the Pass App or the key fob. So I went out to get in it and even had to use the emergency key to open the door. Everything was dead, no lights no nothing. I popped the hood and and put my DVM on the battery and it was reading 4.1 V. Dead as a door nail. Its a dual system and both were dead. Fortunately I had a booster and was able to get it cranked. I only have 1200 miles on this thing and should not have this problem. The temps did get down in the mid teens a few nights but that shouldn't kill these new AGM batteries. These are new factory batteries. Going back to the dealer to see what they say. Anybody else have starting issues during this cold snap?
Did you add something aftermarket that is hooked to the battery without the BMS connection? BMS is on passenger side battery on mine. If that add on was accidentally left on the BMS would not stop the drain.
If no such add on, bms is not doing its job, and you have an unusually large open load draw when key is off. All on Ford and Ford needs to track down cause not just fix symptoms. Better to have towed in dead or likely will get the ever popular “ cannot replicate customer complaint.” If too late for that, tell them to keep it several overnights if necessary and try cranking first 5ging in the morning, and again at end of day.
My 23 with dual batteries sits for weeks on end and nothing happens. Well it goes into battery saver mode after about 2 weeks I think it is, might be 10 days.
IMO you have some kind of draw if the truck is going into battery saver mode and still running the batteries to 4.1v...
Just got back from the dealer and everything checks good. They ran a battery test and all that was good. We have another cold snap on the way so we are going to wait and see if it happens again. The have been not after market items put on it but a set of ditch lights which the tech said is wire fine and are run through the upfitters so that is a non issue. I personally thing it is a battery (dual batteries) that maybe can't handle the cold. We will see.
I personally thing it is a battery (dual batteries) that maybe can't handle the cold.
I call BS on that theory (unless there is something seriously wrong with that particular battery)!
I have crappy lead-acid batteries in farm equipment and older cars and they sit for months, and they fire right up come spring. And those batteries are MUCH older than MY24!
alot of the older threads were leaking batteries corroding the cables on new trucks. these recent threads seem to be unexplained parasitic draws killing the batteries which is a far worse problem to have as it can be difficult sorting it out
Things happen like to thin of connector between plates or battery was dropped in shipping. Or like a connector plug not properly connected and sending bad information to the computer and over charges. Would anyone think that FORSCAN is set at 120 percent charging and overcharging the batteries? I read somewhere here that is what it is set at.
If the battery has a cracked connection between the plates or post it could still start during warm conditions due to expansion of metals and connects the cells. In cold the metals separate and causing a short and will not start.
Jump it and drive to dealership and everything warms up and when tested everything looks fine. They will not honor warranty because it tested good. I have tried that and when I purchased and installed the batteries myself everything worked but no reimbursement on warranty.
Bottom line put in new batteries. Save your time and sanity start with heart of the electrical system.
