Headlamp replacement recommendations

2003 F350 headlamps are crazed, polished the yellow off but they're in rough shape. Looking for replacement recommendations and any possible bulb upgrades. Not looking to blind people or be the annoying guy with those damn headlamps. I do need all of the light I can get though. Tell me what's worked for you.

Setup? I guess you used Hella 80/100 bulbs and used relays? I need headlamps also, not just bulbs.

Set up = hella bulbs + upgraded relay harness

My apologies. I misunderstood thinking you were after bulb replacement only. In that case, eagle eyes were recommended by Skyskijason and what I have had in my F350 since 2016.

I'm currently gathering parts to switch these out for what I did to my Excursion - xl sealed beam LEDs.

Alpha rex offers an impressive product as well if you dont have a budget.

If you pull your headlights and run them to a body shop you know. Ask them to clear coat the lens. I know 2 automotive painters, they both suggested it and my 1999 headlight lens look brand new. Only charged me $100. They cleared mine while still mounted on the truck. Mine were getting dim, swapped out the bulbs after clear coating the lens. Sylvania offers 3 stages of oem replacement bulbs (lamps) , no harness mods needed. The low (stock lumen rating) & med lumen ones were all that were available locally. Swapped them out and better but not great. Turned out the 9 year old Motorcraft batteries were on their way out ,as it started cranking slower at the same time I swapped bulbs. Just a coincidence of course but happy I got 9 years out of them !

I modified my aero housings to take LED sealed beam units. See this post: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post21379666

I can spry clear, housings are done no saving these.
I guess the factory wiring can't handle the draw of the Hellas, in the past most Fords couldn't handle the factory headlamp bulbs, which is why the relay harness. Wasn't looking at LED's or really any major investment.

The relay harness takes power directly from the battery to the bulbs, which nets you brighter light output vs the long route to the switch then eventually back to the front of the truck via thin wire. You can put Hellas in but without the harness, youll be leaving some output on the table.

I have about $100 in my lights on the X.

I cobbled together my setup. Been on the truck 4 years now and I’m very happy with it.

I bought newer housings than the 01 style from rock auto. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...assembly,10762

Picked up a cheap relay harness from EBay.

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/133129054056...3ABFBM1sTyu4tl

Installed the Hella 100/80’s from Amazon.

I have had a cheap...$22...pair of LED bulbs in both trucks for many years now with no issues. It made a big difference in both trucks. I replaced the plug-in sockets and went to 03 clear lenses in the Excursion. The F350 got the same, but with 05 Harley style lenses. It's probably the best mod/upgrade I've done to them...

@F350towing Thanks, that's some of the stuff I was looking at. Didn't know if that harness had good connectors that would hold up to the higher heat/amperage. For that price it's worth it to buy the harness. I have plenty of Bosch relays and wire but the connectors for the harness is the hard part. I looked at HL Depot and Rock Auto for housings, people talk about clear housings and I'm not sure what they mean.

The 99-01 used a different housing than the 02-05

99-01. Those vertical lines in the lens did nothing but diffused the light.

Harness has the ceramic connector for the higher wattage/ higher heat bulbs.

Even with the 80/100’s I haven’t had anybody flash me for blinding them. Just make sure to get them set right and you’ll be good.

With the stock set up I could easily outdrive the lighting capabilities on a winding country road. Not anymore.

Is this the harness type you used?

^^^ Your link.

The link I provided in my previous post does reference to the 01 Superduty and says it fits.

Worst case scenario is the cross over power wires are too short and need to be extended. The nuts and bolts of every harness will be the same.

I did the upgraded harness and Hella's years ago as well. I also replaced my sun killed original lenses with new OEM(in 2019 they were only $100ish ea). I'm not a fan of the aftermarket lights. I also upgraded the bulbs on my factory fog lights.

I do not recall what harness I got, i thought there was an old vendor supplying them.

Okay, I just looked. I still have 4 new Hella bulbs, so I went to my ebay history. I made this change in 2019 I guess and I'm actually running Flosser 80/100 bulbs. I faintly remember trying both and the Flosser were actually brighter/ better

On the comment about the higher quality sylvania bulbs...I've found that the cheap ones last the longest. the "higher performance" ones don't last YMMV
