Pulled out the seat and took a look at the gas tank. Pretty crusty! I was going to try and restore it, not sure it would be worth it. Couldn't get pictures inside but there is rust everywhere.
A localish radiator shop would be able to tank it like they do radiators and clean it very well. From what I can see, it doesn't look like it wouldn't clean up well.
Much easier and less messy to just let the radiator shop boil it out in their tank and call it good. If you insist on an internal coating/seal, do it after the radiator shop has cleaned it - don't do it to cover rust.

i used a POR15 tank kit a number of years ago with good results. It was important to do the cleaning on a warmish day and completely dry the tank before applying the sealer.
This may be your only real option - short of replacing the tank - if there isn't a radiator shop able or willing to do the work. The rad shops are mostly gone in many areas.

Good luck with your mission.
I called one place and they quotes me starting at $329!!! He told me buy new. I might try the kit. Do it as a learning/Trial and error situation.
$329? Wow... It should be less than half that unless they are sealing, priming, and finish painting the whole thing too. Hopefully you can get some other quotes.

Hello
I recently just bought one at LMC Trucks for $180 new.... for my F2. They also have the sender unit, if needed.
Also was thinking about sealing or other treatments, but with this price it wasn't worth the effort.

I also used the Por15 kit on my son's '70 F100. I tossed in some nuts and bolts, shook it vigorously for a while to loosen the rust, then followed the instructions to the letter. It worked like a charm, and it had some tiny pinholes that never left puddles but always left the smell of gas in the cab. Mind you, I'm in Canada where prices are double. If I lived in the States I'd just buy a new tank as its a fair bit of work to do the Por15 kit properly.
This summer I gave my rusty tank a good soaking in menthol hydrate, rinsed and repeated then I used POR15 treatment. A new tank for my 67 F350 was almost $1,000 Canadian funds.
I pulled my tank 3 times trying to clean it myself (and ran 3 fuel filters trying to keep it clean, a cheap disposable I planned on replacing quite often, and did)... anyhow after the 3rd try i gave up and bought a plastic full size bronco tank and put it between the rails, you can get I think 17 gallon and 33 gallon. I did the 33 gallon and mounted it above the rails under a stakebed (original was a stakebed when I got it). If I had it to do over again, I would advise the smaller bronco tank.
i used the east ood kit 15 years ago on a tractor of mine that was rusty inside.it cleaned out and sealed it real well,it is still being used like the day i got done.
