I have a 02 excursion lt, had to replace front bearings when I bought it. The outer axle shaft on the passenger side was damaged due to the last owner letting the bearing go for so long. Replaced with a full axle assembly. long story short, new bearing was trashed, and messed up the spindle again. tried replacing the outer axel, all I can seem to find are part 2002692 and 44449. 2002692 is an spline count of 30, and spline diameter 1.31. I went to put the hubs back on, and the spline diameter is too large. I know I replaced the outer axle on the other side, and the hub worked fine. What am I missing, and does anyone know where I can find the proper outer axel...Im at a loss.
What brand of wheel bearing are you using, Timkin or a Chinese knockoff? I replaced mine in July, passenger side, both the wheel bearing and the axle shaft no problem. Are you using the proper tool to set the axel into the Dana 50? As for your hubs, are you using Motorcraft or cheap aftermarket?
Dorman bearing. About what I can afford. The outer axle was an ebay item. I don't think my problem is quality at the moment. More fitment. Every where I search the 1.31 diameter is what I'm given. But I know it's not 1.31, the original locking hubs are 1.21. I can't find any hubs the fit 1.31. The machined wear surface where the bear rides seems to be the same between original and the 1.31s. The part fits. It drives. I can't put the locking hubs back on, which means no 4x4. I can only find two part numbers for the outer axle. 44449 and 2002692. The 2692 is the 1.31. The 44449 is IFS, some have the ujoint retaining clips on the of the yoke, some inside. Mine are inside. My Ex is leaf spring full axle dana 50. I have to check some other dimensions (length etc) on the original axle, but I've only found the 44449 in 1.21, but that's for independent suspension, right?

Took some measurements from the previous part. I understand why many sites are saying the shaft diameter is 1.31. But many seem to be mixing up shaft diameter and spline diameter. Old part has a bearing wear surface of 1.31. The splines however, are 1.28. The new part I installed (Part ending 2002692) has a spline diameter of 1.31. Will take pics when I get outside today. Here's the old part.
I did research the part number on the old part. Everything says replace with part 2002692. I've reached put to several sellers, overtime I ask what the spline diameter is, I'm not sure if they're giving me the shaft diameter or actual spline diameter. And the ones who attach pics, are contradictory, I think because they're sellers who have no clue what they are talking about.
I am temporatemporarily reinstalling the old part. Will take photos of measurements of new part when i do. Im beginning to think the old part actually wasnt bad. Especially after measureing the wear surface.

dumb question, but are you buying D50 parts? or D60 parts? And have you verified what axle you have installed.
It's supposed to be a D50. But these rigs are 25yrs old at youngest. And installing D60 was an extremely popular option over the years since it drops right in. Doesn't help that the D50/D60 share a ton of parts. Look at the center diff and compare google images with what you have. I suspect you have D60 stub shaft in hand. hence the fitment issue with your D50. It happens alot. Especially as the internet doesn't exactly make it obvious the X has D50 and many sites lump D60 parts in.
another option for you is to grab a D60 from 2002-2004 Superduty, or D50 from 2000-2002 Superduty. It will bolt up to your rig. no modifications needed. Might be a cheaper option getting 1 from a Junkyard. I bought one a few years back for $100 from Pick N' Pull.
I will verify and post pics the next evening I work on it. I have no indication it was switched out. I bought the veh from the second owner. The stub I have lists fitment for both d50/d60.
