Hey all! My 87 Ranger 2.9L has been down most of the year. In the spring/summer did a bunch of work, including the upper and lower intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, taking out the AC compressor and condenser (didn't blow cold and don't want to go through the trouble of charging it), replacing the coolant hoses and trans oil cooler hoses, and new plugs, wires, roto, and cap. I got it running and drove it in July to my new house. Being very new to mechanics, I had a misfire and while trying to diagnose it would run to warm and then it would just shut off. I called a mobile mechanic because I finally needed so eyes from someone who knows what they are doing. He diagnosed the misfire, turns out it was TFI and we just replaced the whole distributor because the pick up had really low voltage. We got it running and test drove. Its smoother but at 3000rpm it was not wanting to change gears (automatic) and we think its not getting enough fuel. Also, after the test drive there was coolant in the valley on top of the lower intake. We did a compression test and it seemed to all be coming from a leaking heater hose under the throttle body. I changed the heater hoses a week later and now it won't start 🤣. The mobile mechanic was near by and came to check over things. No spark on 1 so it seems like the new distributor has a fault so warrentying it and a new one comes in this week.
Best of Luck to the SC lady basketball team today. I'd mention their nickname but, last time I did, a mod in CA got their panties an a bunch and me.
Even though the nick name is on the court floor, on national TV and newspapers. Go Ladies.
I am not sure if I posted about this, but my poor Danger Ranger is very sick. 😞
Turns out it was due to oil starvation. I’ll have to post the full story later, but in the meantime… be CAREFUL using Take 5 for oil changes. Or at the very least, CHECK THE FILTER afterwards to make sure it’s actually tight!!!
This could have ended much worse than it already has.
