I am looking at getting a bracket to lift the heads off my truck to do the head gaskets. I have found what appears to be a clone of the OTC bracket on ebay. 456 of them have been sold and only negative I have seen is that the provided bolts are too long and you need to shim with washers. Anybody have experience with this bracket or should I just go with the genuine OTC for double the price? He lists the bracket as an OTC with their part number, but from the pictures, its not.

I built this tool a long time ago.
I welded tubes to the underside because otherwise the tool cannot be screwed on with the rocker box installed. I would buy the cheap tool and optimize it if necessary.
You only need an Adel clamp, off the rocker box for the correct angle. I've done both multiple times. Or, if you want adjustability, use the perforated angle from Home Depot as 87Crewdually has. You'll have to alter the L-angle bracket from 90º.
I had to lose the music from the video. At lot of friggin work if you want to make one. I prefer to other things.

It's a 6mmx1.0mm thread. They are used all over this truck. I had a washer under the bolt.
I couldn't see spending money for the production bracket or taking so much time making one for a one-off or home shop, especially if you know the capability of steel. Hartwig is in a commercial situation - then I can justify making it.
If I did that video again, I probably would use two or three links of chain, the bolt going through one link. But I have a supply of Adel clamps.
Thanks. I can either find a bolt that threads in when disassembling the truck or getting a bolt with the clamp. That seems to the simplest and cheapest. I thought of purchasing the bracket and then selling it on ebay. Making one is not even possible as it would take too much time even though I have the means. Just not worth it.

Yep, tool rental. That works, too.
I looked at that too from freedom racing or something. Problem is, $70 dollars to rent, plus shipping it back and then not knowing anything about the business and risking the "it came back damaged" you owe us full price or whatever. No to mention, I can get a new one for $70 that's a close of the OTC other than the studs under it that I seem to understand to be so you can use the bracket with the rocker boxes on.
Your way seems to be the best way for somebody like myself that is planning on this to be a 1x job.
No, I didn't mean using someone like Freedom Racing to rent from. I meant buying one and then selling it on eBay as a "rental". I've done that too, although half the time, I end up keeping it.
I would also like to point out that the matching bracket has the advantage that
the head is well balanced on the hook. This allows you to put some tension on the head and "pretension" the whole thing a little. Tapping the head lightly with a plastic hammer loosens it and you can see the damaged area on the gasket better.
When reinstalling, it also helps to position the head more evenly.
Maybe there is someone here who can lend you the bracket.
Unfortunately, I live on another continent, otherwise I would lend you mine.
If that's a worry, the perforated steel angle could be used to ensure the three bolts are safe. So an $8 bracket, which Pete has also used. You just have to open the angle from 90º to 105º.
