Installing universal wiring harness in my 63 f100. All blinkers are working correctly but I don't know where to connect the wire coming from the brake light switch. I get 12v on this wire when brake depressed. How can this be wired to cause both tail lights to blink when the brake is on? Help appreciated.
Brake lights use the same wire as the t/s wires going to the back. You should have running/tail light activated by headlight switch. left t-s/brake, right t-s/brake and reverse lights going to the rear.
Reverse lights are activated by the switch on the transmission.
The brake light switch is connected to the t/s switch. With t/s off, when brakes are applied, power is sent to both left and right t/s lights in the back. When you activate the t/s a given direction, it sends power to the correct side in the rear, power is fed into the t/s switch through the flasher, which breaks the circuit at timed intervals so the light flashes. If you apply the brakes at the same time the t/s is activated, the brake signal is overridden by the t/s switch so the side you have activated continues to flash, but the brake light signal is passed through for the non-flashing side activating the brake light in the rear only on the side that isn't supposed to be flashing.
