My 1993 f150 has a vibration that feels like it’s coming from under the seat, possibly further back, when I accelerate at any speed usually going up a hill but sometimes on flat ground. Any ideas what it could be? Wheels unbalanced? I can accelerate on flat ground at high speeds above 60mph and it’s non existent.
I read a thread on here that said to inspect u joints you should apply parking break, chalk tires, put in neutral and then check joints for any movement. Is this correct?
Could be the carrier bearing if it has a 2-pc driveshaft, could also be dried out U joints in the driveshaft. The driveshaft has to be removed to inspect for these issues, it's not good enough to simply shake it looking for movement.
To check the u joints you jack the truck up and put it in neutral on jackstands or a hoist
Then roll the driveline(s) over, back and forth looking for any looseness or movement in the u joints
In your case while rthe truck is jacked up and you are checking the u joints, check the rear axle pinion for being loose on the rear end
That is common, when the pinion bearings get worn, the rear yoke will be loose on the pinion gear
