AC mode cable broken
This is the best photo of mine I could get.
This is what it looks like from above on eBay
I have a 1988 F-150. It is an XLT lariat with AC. The defroster, panel, floor, mix cable seized. And I was messing with it when I first got the truck 2 years ago. And that little black piece in the photo of mine popped out of place. Do I just need a new cable and it comes with that piece, or do I need to find that piece at a junkyard? I’m gonna get a new cable anyway cause it’s seized. But I’m not sure what that little black piece is.
This is what the front side of the unit looks like. The rest of the ***** work just the air direction one is broken.
With it being colder now I need the defroster accessible while I’m driving. I don’t need to be reaching under the dash to move the piece by hand.

I too have an '88 F250 and I too have broken that piece. My fix was to zip-tie the rest of the piece into the socket. Worked for years, but I then got a heater-control unit from an on-line auto "re-cycling establishment" in the mail. They sent the cables also, so that was a plus. It's easier than you think.
