Possible CP4 Recall

Found this on social media. Not sure if it's going to actually happen, but hopefully Ford takes some ownership and take care of their customers.

LMAO. Aged biodiesel... To be fixed with a tune...
My friend had the CP4 in his Ram and the retrofitted it with the CP3, noticeable loss in power after. Maybe they are just reducing the line pressure?

From what I have found, nothing has said definitively that there is an actual recall in progress. Hopefully soon. It would be cool if Ford would just suck it up and pay to have all of our CP4s swapped to DCR fuel pumps.

Reduce the buildup of aged biodiesel…. Sounds like they are maybe going to add heat to the pump through coolant passages to reduce buildup???? Doesn’t sound like a great strategy if in fact that is the plan.

Im just surprised at the number of diesels sold! 300,000 over three model years and five different truck models is way less than I thought they were selling.

I couldn't find anything else related to what the OP posted. As far as number of diesels recalled, I wonder if it'll only be certain trucks since it mentioned ones that sat? For example mine was ordered by me and built and shipped. No sitting in muddy fields for months.

They slowed production because of parts shortages (i.e. chips and Ford badges to name a couple). During this period, it was hard to find a Super Duty on a dealer lot.

As of November 13, 2024, Ford is aware of 3,070 warranty reports, 498 field reports and
58 customer service reports associated with this concern, received from October 18, 2019,
through November 12, 2024.
So that's 1% of all the diesel trucks produced over 3 years??

Well, what Ram was doing is they were overspeeding the CP4 purposefully to produce enough flow/pressure to meet the demands of the tune they wanted to run. That was one of the reasons the CP4 failure percentage in Ram trucks was higher than Ford trucks. So when your friend went to a totally different pump, he jacked up the entire tuning for the engine. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten CELs on the dash.

Gotta' remember that the line was shut down due to the pandemic at first, then parts shortages, then union strike. So it's not that people didn't want trucks, it's just that Ford couldn't get them built.

Side note: add this to the growing list of reasons I always suggest to guys to shop for pre-covid trucks. The 2018 and 2019 trucks are nearly flawless.

Same with my 2020, super solid thus far. Actually, I believe it was made in late 2019.

If the software update lowers the pump speed/pressure, will that lower the power as well?

The software probably adjust the regulator to allow more diesel flow thru the CP4.2 to improve cooling. The pump speed is fixed via the gear set

I sold my 2020 f450 Platinum about a month ago and had zero issues in 74,000 miles . I looked up the VIN and it is on the recall. It was built in December 2019 and I picked it up in January 2020 . So I doubt it had a fuel issue. I always changed fuel filters around 15k and oil change at 5k . I also ran fuel additives which I think helps lubricate the fuel pump along with good quality fuel . Well I guess I won’t have to worry about what they will do on the recall. I ordered a 2025 F350 with 7.3 so I’m out of the diesel truck for awhile.
