The KYBs on the '56 are probably about 30 years old. The pictures bear witness to that I'll admit.
I think I'll pull them off to see how they are, but am wondering what shock are you guys using these days?
I do use this truck pretty regularly for hauling stuff.

I put Bilsteins on the front of my truck and can't tell if they're any better than the blown shocks that fell apart after 60 years or whatever(I decided bilsteisn because I thought it'd be like finding sliced bread for the fist time). Had some real hassles ordering the fronts so gave up finding/ordering the rears. The piece of junk ancient rears will just have to do until they fall apart too.
Do you know the part number on the Bilsteins? I do know that KYB no longer lists the part number for the fronts. And yeah, the sway bars really stabalize the old boy. Corners FLAT!
Anybody have a pair of these? I bought a pair of stock style Monroes that Dennis Carpenter has listed for the '56 and I am not sure they help all that much for a stock style rebuilt front end.
I can only speak to KYBs on second generation Camaros and for them they are junk. Harsh ride poor damping. Everyone runs Koni, Bilstein or coil overs with the Majority opting for Bilstein shocks.
I can't speak to them on these trucks as the requirements and demands are different.
I like the Bilsteins for a straight up shock absorber although I am running Varishock double adjustables right now. My Konis were too harsh even on the softest damping but I am also running 650# springs up front and 175lb in the rear with oversized sway bars front and rear.

Here are the front two KYBs. At least 25 to 30 years old. Compressed length is 14.5 inches, extended length is 20.5 inches. No gas left in either one, but they are quite stiff. I'm still shopping for good replacements. Leaning to the Bilsteins. The part number stamped on the shock body does not match anything KYB makes currently.
The question I have at the moment is regarding the upper mount. Both have a seam/split in them. As uniform as the splits are, I'm thinking this may be they way Ford manufactured them. What do you guys think?
I think I recall that the LMC offering is different from stock and thus possibly impacts fitment of other components. Unfortunately, the listing on the LMC website doesn't have pictures, just a wire frame.
