Thought on stabdpipes

What's the thoughts on the stand pipes/dummy plugs. From what I'm reading ford has changed their o-rings and they aren't reliable. Diesel Site has come out with their own standpipes and dummy plus, but their 1st gen had alot of failures, but their 2nd gen has fixed those issues. Do you go with diesel site ones or go with Ford and change the gaskets to Alliant o-rings.

I use the Ford original parts. No problems so far. Running EOT max. 102⁰C / 215⁰F.

I recently spoke to a customer on the phone who does not follow my advice to keep the EOT low, he drives with 5th wheel 115⁰C / 240⁰F.

I had a customer lose a dummy plug and a standpipe after I replaced them with new Ford parts. I'm not sure they come from international anymore and are just stamped with international's part number. Regardless, the parts have been questionable as of late so I'd be willing to try Dieselsite's stand pipe and plug kit over Ford.

You can still get them from International, but they are double the price. (Ask me how I know)

Case in point: I went through three (3) cam and crank position sensors from Ford with a customer before getting them from International. Then and only then did the truck run right. It would lose FICM sync while running, stall, and make you think something was seriously wrong but that's all it was: inferior parts. It cost him double the money from International but it was worth it.

I'm typically an OEM parts only kind of person unless its an aftermarket add on. I used OEM standpipes and dummy plugs when I updated them when the truck had 50k and I have not had any issues. I'm really just thinking of keeping what I have and replacing the o-rings as I now need to do head gaskets. It's just the other side of me is saying to replace with new while I am that deep so I don't have to go back in there to replace them. I just don't really know how good the dieselsite ones are as there really isnt much talk on them other than the 1st gen being problematic.

@Toreador Diesel: Did you have any information about the conditions under which the parts failed? Did the truck pull hard or was it driven with high EOTs?

Are you using the new Ford standpipes within the last few years. I replaced my original ones with the updated ones and have had no issues. I'm having to do head gaskets now so I am either replacing with new and changing the o-rings with Alliant ones or going with Diesel Site ones. I just dont know how much I trust the dieselsite ones as there really isnt much information on them other than the 1st gen having a lot of failures.
