I purchased a 2005 Eddie Bauer Expedition 1 year ago. The biggest problem is the security system. The second biggest problem is electrical: there is a ground fault short parasitic drain. The battery is completely dead within 15 minutes of shutting the vehicle off; when depleted thusly, the security system is armed. This (latter) problem has existed for a couple of months. Previously, in order to jump-start the vehicle, I was able to disarm the security system by rapidly pressing “unlock” several times on the key-fob; lately, this functionality has ceased, and I don’t suspect the problem is the key-fob itself, as the circuit board looks fine, and I replaced the battery. Instead, I now have to jump-start, insert the key into the ignition all the way to the “ON” position, and wait for 15-30 seconds as the horn blares, before the security system finally disarms, and I can successfully jump-start it again. This is problematic, as it now requires twice as much electricity as before to jump-start, on account of the security system’s malfunction.
Is there a way to restore the security disarming functionality of the key-fob? All of the buttons on the key-fob still work, but when the horn is blaring, pressing the “unlock” button in rapid succession elicits no response from the doors; this method worked for months, and was much more discrete and conservative of electricity, then waiting for the horn to blare for 15-30 seconds, in order to disarm the security system. I found the box under the dashboard on the driver’s side, and it says, “Code Alarm”.
Can you unplug the Code Alarm brain module ? See if that helps. The Expy comes with a security system from the factory. I don't know why anyone would add a aftermarket, especially a POS Code Alarm. The factory security module is just above the fusebox. It should have a decal on it with the door code numbers on it in bold letters.
The key-fob has 4 buttons: OPEN, CLOSE, OPEN LIFTGATE, and HORN (it’s red). The vehicle is equipped with the keyless-entry door-pad combination panel, located underneath the front driver’s side window. I was given a card with the original combination to the door-pad with the vehicle, when I purchased it; this combination matches the one written on the “Factory Security Module” under the dashboard (above the fusebox) on the passenger side. I could never enable this keyless-entry door-pad combination functionality, either by entering the code alone, or by pressing 1•2 immediately afterwards; however, it still lights up while I’m pressing the buttons.
I removed the “Code Alarm” module, and the vehicle would not start.

I have succeeded in disarming the security system, without the key-fob, nor 30 seconds of my horn blaring, thusly:
1. With the battery completely dead, insert the key into the ignition cylinder, turn to the “ON” position, and leave it there.
2. Jump-start the vehicle.
If the key is inserted, and turned to the “ON” position, at the moment that the battery comes back to life, then the security system will be immediately disarmed. The security system arms when the battery depletes entirely, and will remain so when you jump-start it, unless you insert the key into the ignition, and turn it to the “ON” position, while it’s still dead. The security system may inexplicably fail to acknowledge the key fob’s disarming functionality, for no apparent reason.
