Hi everyone, I’m looking at a 1969 f600 and was hoping to get some help identifying the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I see a lot of posts with the “D” engine, but non with “B”?
B = 300 1V six in line gas engine (Should be HD version)
R = San Jose Assembly Plant
A98169 = 1967 numerical series, March 1967 production
156 = 156 inch wheelbase
L = Dark Green
F600 = F600 gas, 4x2, 19,500 lbs GVWR
481
4 = Medium Beige Vinyl
81 = Cab and chassis vehicle, probably regular cab.
A = New Process model 435 four speed transmission
62 = Rockwell model F-106 single speed rear axle, 15,000 lbs capacity, 6.20 ratio
No front axle code--for model year '64 to '69 only optional axles were listed. So, Ford front axle, probably 5,000 lbs capacity, no power steering.
19500 = 19,500 lbs GVWR
150 3600 = 150 certified net HP @ 3600 RPM
74 = Seattle District Sales Office
'67 is said to be an oddball year on some interior and cab parts.
What would you be doing with this truck?
It will turn about 3100 MPH to go 60 MPH. The slightest rise in the road will have you in 3rd.
The gaps between gears and no two speed to bridge them along with the limited power will make this thing somewhat miserable on freeways or in the hills.
I was actually looking to turn it into a camping vehicle, it has a really neat cover on the bed, probably an old welding or plumbing rig that I wanted to convert, but with the engine, guessing that’s not a great idea.
It's not just the engine--you have a transmission in most of these with 3 usable speeds, big gaps between the gears. And in this one, a single speed rear axle.
Great on the farm. Not so much on the freeway or in the mountains.....
Thanks so much for the info and opinion. Out of curiosity do you know what other trucks the bed of a f600 fits on, and when you recommend a later model/smaller, do you mean f250 or the such?
