Do the yokes have washers behind the nuts? My core 205( I think )had washers on them, but I don’t see washers on the 78 FSM parts diagrams and places like torque king and bronco graveyard appear to sell only the nut and seal rubber , no washer. I was running it with washers making the nuts at the end of the threaded portion of the input and outputs. Wanted to check and appreciative of some affirmative or negatives on this.
Yes, appears this nut is about 5/8" wide. new updated output shaft threads are 1/8" longer than OE shaft, probably to allow for thicker nuts 5/8" nut (I'm guessing is longer than OE nut) and combined with washer would be longer than OE
Change of focus, Does anyone have views on which bearing is better to run for input and rear output bearings.
These two measure the same, one with 8 *****, one with 12. I'd read ball loading slots on the 12 could be a weak point. Appreciative of thoughts on either.
both OD and ID and width measure the same, both have snap rings.
smokey_diesel I'll try running just the flange nuts/seals without washers, Thanks for the suggestion. Mine doesn't look as good as yours there but I have it all built up and back in.
Did a few minor upgrades, new input and output shaft, new bearings, new shift collars, new shift forks. I also thought it would be a good time to do the
twin stick shift rails as the old were corroded and worn. Got her in back in there
I put in the Offroad Design ford twin-stick shift rails. The ORD representative said they'll operate in single stick mode but saw JBFabrication and others say the twin stick rails don't operate in single mode.
Found a 102" speedo cable, NP205 end and a 5/8" bump side speedometer end: https://www.ebay.com/itm/231821235484 to replace a cobbled together cable.
Going to wait til the spring to do a twin stick install but for now am going to try running it single stick mode. My guess is case is protected by the mode interlock rods but it might not shift correctly. Anyone have any experience running a 205 with twin stick rods as a single stick?
