I was wondering if anybody knows anything about this school. I live in Ok but wanting to get in diesel mechanic to make a living heard this is the best school around. Anybody else know or heard any good things about it.
Being a former Laramie, WY resident, I can state the school and its graduates have a well deserved favorable reputation along the Rocky Mountain corridor. Offering degrees in various technical automotive services, it also features a rarity; coursework in street rod fabrication, one of the few in the country. The AHRA's "Tour of America" featured a stop-over visit to WyoTech.
The school is not known for frills. The "campus" is an older multi-bay service facility with a few classrooms grafted on. The town of Laramie also is home the state's only 4 year university and you would find it similar to Norman, OK; football program excepted - it's a "rebuilding" year.
I have a son that will be attending Univ of Wyoming this fall and I think very highly of the educational facilities at both places. A very well kept secret in terms of the amount of bang for your educational buck.
So, in a nutshell, if you enjoy OK you'll like Laramie. If you enjoy automotibles you'll have a great time at WyoTech. Hope this helps.
I looked at that place heavily. I Just graduated high school and decided to go to school for business first. When i'm done i'm going to go to wyotech. It's 2,000 miles away though. They said room and board plus tuition is about 16,000 a year. They have two class times, both are 8 hours a day. So you spend 8 hours in class. You're training can be completed in a year or two. I forget the time of the classes but they run about 8am-4pm and 5pm-1am. I know that one of the two classes goes until 1am. I think their website is wyotech.com.

Thanks for the replies. Me and my family plan on next monday going up there to tour the campus. I figure if I do go it will be next August after I graduate. Right now I'm taking Diesel in Vo-Tech and it seems pretty cool. If I do go we are figuring the 9 month course and with it and vo-tech I should be able to get ASE certified.
Before you go and spend one dime at that school you should check with your local caterpillar dealership most of them have very good apprenticeship programs. Most cat dealerships have web sites and if you visit some of the sites you will find that they are always looking for techs.
The dealership I work at gets a new batch of apprentices every year( 6 to 8). Out of those 6 to 8 maybe only 2 or 3 will finish. My little brother completed the program about a year and a half ago, he will make between 50,000.00 and 60,000.00 this year as a field service tech not bad for a 22yo. His schooling cost him nothing. They gave him 3000.00 in tools to start with, paid him 10.00hr to work 40 hrs a week (ojt). And paid for his AA degree at night 3 to 4 hrs three times a week for 2 and a half years. The only thing he had to invest in was tools after the initial 3000.00. By the time he finished the program he had around 30 grand in tools, and no school debt.
By the way, from my sources at high school, not wyotech's words, they have a 95% job sucess rate. Which means that 95% of the people who graduate get a full time job (above a certain $ amount i forgot the number) have a good job within 3 months after graduating. 95% in 3 months is a great statistic. Shows how much demand for a job there is. They have a great program for that, they have a lot of job fairs where company's are just handing out jobs to students for when they graduate.

Nmford, I have not seen any programs like your talking about with Cat in NE Oklahoma. We have one with JohnDeere where you work for 2 years and they pay for your schooling and you have a job and associates degree in desiel when you graduate. You work for them 2 weeks and go to school a week, then work a week and go to school 2 weeks. Back and forth so you always have money. Kid 2 years ago got hired out of our vo-tech making $17hr starting off and making $18-19 now.
But as far as Wyotech goes, Email scneider national and they recommeded it more than any other school. Have not seen a reputable school as good a Wyotech yet.
