fuel problem

for a 93 ford exp

My gas milage has recently turned very poor. Any suggestion on fixing the problem. Had one person say something about some kind of sensors under the car I could replace??? anyone know anything about it???

Also my fuel gage has quit working.....is it the gage or could it be a floater in the tank???
thanks

Air filter is all i can say if your getting bad mileage... also, are you up to par on the service intervals (ie oil changes)?

Is temp gauge in normal region? Could be thermostat.
Could be internal leak of fuel pressure regulator. Does it idle rough?
Tank float could be leaking. If you unplug the tank electrical connector, gauge should go full.
Your friend is likely wrong about the O2 sensors. You will get an engine light and mileage doesn't drop that much.
Do you really have any data that your mileage has dropped? It takes at least three tank fulls to get an accurate reading.

Better milage-MAF sensor?

Opras suggestion is good.
I can also add from my own experience:
1. Air filter need to be fresh ( I use S&B)
2. I cleaned the sensors inside the MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor), applying CRC carburettor cleaner, and carfully purged with press. air.

It runs softer on idle, and with a bit better fuel consuption.

If your MAF should be very dirty, it can mess up the fuel system calibration a lot.

Fuel sensor

Just by second thought;

If you have a driving computer which is calculating the milage, the fuel sensor is vital for the calculation.
Or do you do it manually?
