1977 F150 44 to 60 swap
I just picked up a old mud truck with matching 60's front and rear. I was wondering if there were any tricks to swaping the front 60 into my 77 F-150 to replace the 44. The 77 already has the 78-79 steering set up and a complete 6" skyjacker softride suspension.
I think the brake lines will need to be modified along with spring and radius arm mounts in stalled on the alxe.
Thanks,
Mudman

is the 44 monobeam or TTB? you will have to swap over the spring perches b/c the f150 has coils and the 60 will have leaves. If I was you I would keep the leaves and ditch the coils so you would have to remove the lift. other than that it should be a fairly simple swap. I swapped a 60 in place of my Dana 50 TTB and it was literally a direct bolt in.
also the D60 has a crossover steering so you will have to remove it along with the D44

tyhe best way to slap that 60 in there is to grind the the things the radius arms go around off the axle tubes of the 44(i think the 78-79 ones were cast on so you cant grind the welds off), waller out the holes to a little over 3 inches(the 60 has bigger tubes) and get it all lined up right, weld them on then bolt everything back together with your nice 60 front....youll have to swap the steering linkage from the 44 to the 60, and take the arm off the 60
this wont work unless you have a 77.5-79 rc60 because of the room between the pumpkin and the driver side c on the later 60's(theres not enough room to weld the thingies on)
sorry about the brain fart .... i cant remember what the "thingies" are called
