How rare is a factory 460 4spd?

A friend of mine found a 1972 F-350 460 4spd dually. We know the 460 4spd is rare, but were wondering how many ever existed. I know this is a 72 truck and I already posted in the other forum, but were were also wondering how many 73-79 had this option from the factory.

It's pretty rare in a 72 since the biggest option was a 390. If I remember correctly the 460 became an option when the supercabs appeared in 74 and were never offered with a 4spd in a 2wd, and 460s were never offered in a 4wd. MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE! Anybody on here with some factory brochures can verify that.

I think the build date of the truck was October or November of 1972

October or November of 72 would make it a 1973 model year! Check the code on the door/door frame should have an engine code, or give the guys on here the VIN and they can decifer it for you. Factory or not a 460 4spd is a supercombo. Oldest factory 460 4spd I had was a 1984 F250supercab 4x4 460 T19 worked great. T19 was stronger than the Warner or NP 4spd with bull low.

The truck body is definitely a 72, not a 73. I am still trying to get a hold of the vin number though. There was a metal tag under the coil that had 1972 stamped on it.

460s with manuals were only in F250 camper and supercamper specials and F350 duallies (not SRW F350s, SRW f350s with 460s were all automatics). they were pretty common in the F350s. F350s got 2bbl 460s in 72 after sequential # O00000 (letter O)
