Hey, Im thinking of doing a V-10 triton engine replacement (swap in the same) on a 2003 F250 and want to make sure I have everything I need together before I start, wondering if anyone can give me a list of tools beyond the basics and anything else I might need? Thanks Ian
Depends.
What is your skill set? What tools do you already have? Where are you doing the swap? Are you reusing fluids? What is your budget?
The list can be endless. Need more information.
I have pulled the 5.4 from a 2003 F250 2 different times, the first time I took the cab bolts out and jacked the cab up on some 6x6 blocks, the 2nd time I had a above ground lift and lifted the cab off the frame,
a above ground lift and raise the cab is the way to go on these trucks if possible.
No other special tools that I remember, one of the worst parts is unplugging all the connectors without damaging them, it seems like every one has a different latching scheme and you can usually not really see what you are doing, the ABS module was particularly difficult
I've never lifted a cab to pull a 5.4, a 6.8 or a 7.3 Powerstroke. I don't even take the hood off or remove the upper radiator support. A 6.0 is a different story altogether.
A couple things tools that make it easier are about 2 feet worth of 1/2" drive extensions and some flex head ratchets. Also helps to have a cutoff wheel and maybe a reciprocating saw on standby for the exhaust manifold to Y pipe studs.

Medium skilled, Ive done brakes, including calipers, oil, lowering springs, spark plugs all before, I pick things up fast. Im doing it at my bosses shop and theyre a little more skilled than me, We have most basic tools (landscaping shop with 3 trucks) Budget is around $250-500 for tools. Reusing fluid if we can.
Based on what you have said, I think you are more than capable of the job with your skill set and the tool at hand. Please keep us updated on your progress.
