I'm having problems with my 7.2kw generator. I just finished installing a transfer switch in our home. I hooked it to the truck to do a test run but I kept getting a ground fault detection notice on the truck which shuts off the generator. After rechecking all my wiring and finding nothing wrong I tried to start the generator with nothing hooked up. When I did a test I got the same message so my assumption is it's the truck that has the problem. I checked the owner's manual and did a reset, as suggested, a few times plus shut off the engine, restarted and tried again with the same result. The earliest I could get it in for service is the 21st of next month. Thought I would see if anyone has any ideas what it could be or if maybe it's operator error.
A ground fault can be a tricky situation. It may be simply a connection at the Stake in the ground or at a Outlet / extension cord.

I'm doing what I think a number of folks with the 7.2kw generator have done and that is set it up to use as a temporary power source to run a few things in our home if we have an outage. I installed a Generac 6852 30 amp manual transfer panel/switch. It comes with 8 breakers which replace the breakers of your choice on the main panel. In my case, I chose our fridge, an upstairs mini split in case it's hot and we need some a/c, some lights, our WIFI, our tankless water heater, our microwave and our 2 gas furnaces in case it's cold weather. I did continuity checks on all the wiring and checked for shorts but everything checked out. No issues running all the circuits in the new and old panels on regular power. I'm not sure an OBD reader would help as I think it would detect engine functions and not the generator but I could be wrong.
