Post c6 tranny help

I started changing my fluid and filter yesterday. It's been shifting down when I come to a hill, without the kickdown being used and I'm thinking maybe the modulator valve. When I removed the pan, there was a mushroom shaped plastic plunger with an o-ring in the pan. (The head has a hollowed out center.) It didn't fall out when I was taking it apart, it was in the pan. The tranny has been shifting fine, just kicking down early on pulls. Any help in where this piece goes or what would cause my tranny to be shifting down early will be greatly appreciated! TIA

that little mushroom plastic thing can be discarded. it plugged the dipstick hole prior to installation of the dipstick I bvelieve;

I found the same thing in my C-6 when it had the first fluid change. Which means you are overdue for a fluid change!

Probably is your modulator valve but a few things to check would be proper fluid level, vaccuum leak in line to modular valve--if it has tranny fluid in it you can be sure the valve is toast.

You should be able to find that valve at the Ford dealership or order from the various speciality suppliers such as ***.

The mushroom shaped plastic plunger is used to plug the dipstick tube hole while the truck is being assembled. When the dipstick tube is installed the plug is pushed into the pan and stays there until the first fluid change.

That's cool, I remember finding one in the pan of an AOD I did a filter/fluid change with 130,000 miles. Was scared as HELL that I broke something, but it worked for a long time, so I figured it was a non-issue.

Thanks guys! I really had no idea where that plug came from. That is a huge relief. No fluid was leaking and it's dead on full, so I am hoping the valve will do the trick. Hmmmm... fluid from 76 with 89k on it, it really doesn't look bad at all. I'm sure the new fluid will do her some good. Thanks again!
