I have a '93 F250 460 that I replaced the original 460,auto trans with the rebuilt 460 and the 5 speed manual transmission. If I get a wiring harness for the manual trans, what years would be compatible?
Something is telling the engine to add more fuel, and I've burned out one catalytic muffler. The engine now is backfiring, and the CO2 reading are too high to pass the smog test.
I've got a rebuilt 93 computer, but that has issues with the automatic wiring harness, so the mechanic reinstalled the automatic computer.
This was running, and had passed smog earlier. I also had a lack of power, but that was recently fixed but the CO2 issue is still with me.
My thoughts are to correct /replace the wiring harness, then check the O2 sensor and the air pump in that order. Am I overlooking anything besides thinking I could swap motors and drivetrains like I've done back in the '70's? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. - Bill
The original harness and auto trans computer should run the engine just fine. Many people here have done that same thing. I believe you put the MLPS (if E4OD trans) in neutral and leave it there. Have you asked the computer what is wrong or are you guessing there is a problem with the wiring? Check for Key On Engine Off (KOEO) fault codes and fuel pressure with and without the vacuum hose on the regulator.
Did you do a stock rebuild on the engine or did you use a different profile camshaft?
