sure do know that hill Matt.
WCM, i think you have other issues, lime mayby a restricted fuel line between tank and pump.
as Matt said, i too have done some hard pulling with the fuel pump off and only realized it when the fuel filter restriction light came on. flip the pump switch and light goes out.
the switch gets hit because it is in a bad spot. i have it wired to a fused switched power source in cab so the pump only runs when key is on, but have the switch to turn pump power off if i am doing something where need key on engine off.
every time it gets accidently turned off i say im going to move it, and then forget to by the time i get home.

Never measured the pressure as I have never seen a problem with mine.
One interesting thing I noticed. I have an independent switch for the pump and once drove at least 5 miles until I realized that the pump was off, and engine seemed to be happy... odd.
I run the pump from a switch with key-on power and have accidentally turned it off and not realized until I started up a hill and the filter light would illuminate. My measurement of 5psi at idle with the 9-11psi Dura-Lift is on par with what many others have measured at the same point, and they also found the pressure dropped quickly with a little throttle and at WOT would hit 0 psi easily. I wonder if there have been better and worse batches of these pump over the years. I get the same psi readings at idle regardless of which tank the pump is pulling from. Again, there seem to be plenty of folks that claim to not have a problem and there are plenty of folks, very competent folks, who find the pump can't flow enough fuel for an N/A or stock turbo setup. I drive a 10% grade almost everyday and the pump does a fine job up until about 2500 RPM but it just can't keep up beyond that for very long. I do have a new vacuum sensor on order because I have wondered if mine was properly functioning.

There is no set lifetime for glow plugs, replace them when they fail. Only use genuine motorcraft/beru glow plugs, all others tend to fail rapidly, and sometimes catastrophically.
There are good directions on here somewhere on how to wire up a manual glow plug switch, might be up in the stickies, I can't remember.

glow plugs get changed when they start dying. i average around 150-160,000 miles out of glow plugs.
the last glow plug relay i changed was around 20-25 years ago, and i put a stancor in as i was tired of the small ones dying every 3-4 years
