The Holy Grail !
Well I have finally found the Holly Grail of Ford Trucks...
Had some friends in town from up North (salt and rust country...) and they couldn't get over the clean 78-79's for sale around here. We picked up a stack of auto traders, a dozen brown pop and proceded to BS about what would be good to buy and take back home. One of the guys hands me a page with a nice supercab on it and below that add is a 78 Crewcab. I call the guy and he is 100 or so miles away on the coast... As luck would have it we were going to the coast the next day.
Would like to finish the story with tales of a 1 owner dana 60'd mint truck for $1500... Thats not the case this time. The truck is a bit raw around the edges and being from the coast has some rust on the top of the cab. It is complete and it drove home just fine. The 460 runs good, the 4spd makes a lot of noise in 3rd gear...
This is the 10th or so 78-79 I have owned, by far the roughest and instantly my favourite.
I will be restoring and repowering this guy over the next few years. Its going to get a Cummins/5-speed, A/C, and all the other options I can scrounge up.
