This is something the owner should be easy to see for themselves! Does the A/C control panel up front have the switches and labels mentioning "rear air"?
Yes, it does have rear air on the control panel switches, however, my mechanic shop says that all conversion vans have add on rear a/c lines and evaporator and they will not work on add-on rear units. Will the vin # identify factory dual air??
AFIK only the passenger vans (also called Club Wagons) had auxiliary rear heat and AC. The VIN decoder does not have a complete list of features but does show your van was built as a stripped chassis. No aux AC would have been included in that package.
I have a reply from FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIVISION that still needs clarification----" it was produced with the following options ***Auxiliary Heater/AC Prep Package w/Rear Controls factory dual air or not??
Ok. You don't have factory aux AC/heat. Factory heater core, evaporator, expansion valve, diverter door are all integrated in the black plastic assembly.
Your VIN will not say
You could order the stripped chassis vans both with and without rear A/C
His should have rear air
If it has the factory controls on the dash, it has the rear A/C
Find another mechanic
A simple look under the van in the rear will tell you if you have rear air in 2 seconds
I know I have rear air---I want to know if it is factory installed---the controls are in the dash (factory installed). It is a high top conversion van---the install sheet says "auxiliary heater/ac prep package with rear controls"--I want to know if that includes the evaporator and heater core (which are both present) factory installed with all lines from front to rear. Maybe I should check back with Ford.
Factory installed rear A/C will have nice, formed pipes and hoses for the rear unit
The A/C tubes in particular will have a factory shutoff junction where the rear tubes separate from the front hoses
If dealer installed or an upfitter, the hoses would be mostly rubber with clamps on the low side lines
