Took my '04 PSD to the local oil change shop. I wasn't sure what kind of oil it took. The guy (kid) working wanted to put Pennzoil 10-30 in it. I told him I wasn't sure if that was the right oil. Told him I would get back with him and left. Whats everybody else using for motor oil?
I used Delo, some use shell rotella. Don't let them use any oil that isn't correctly rated. Look at some of the other threads on changing oil for the reasons.
I had the same question.
Alot of people steered me towards the Mobil Delvac 1300 it is a 15/40 and exceeds CI-4 standards. Your user manual will tell you to use a 15/40 for most climates. I was able to buy 4 1gallon jugs for a total of 24.99 at a NAPA auto store and bought the paper oil filter for 11.99. It was really easy to change, it only took me 15 minutes and I know it got done right. The top mounted oil filter is a god sent.
Good luck and give it a try yourself.
By alll means, read your owners manual and the supplement for the diesel. Use only API rated CI-4. There are several good brand name oils that meet the CI-4.
Be careful about using bargain filters. Search this thread for info on filters.
Unless something has recently changed, there are no "bargain" filters. There is so far only 1 manufacture of the filter and everybody puts their name on it.
Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40 is a great oil and exceeds CI-4 requirements...
I use Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 fully synthetic..far exceeds CI-4 specs....better cold starts, better anti wear protection, better fuel economy... longer oil change intervals...a money saver all around with a better quality oil..
I always use the best filters money can buy...you get what you pay for....

Roger926: Just curious, how many miles did your truck have before putting in the synthetic oil?
oh the famous, won't die, oil discussion....
I ran Castrol GTX 20-50 in my Bronco for 235,000 miles (overhauled it at 214,000.
I want to use Castrol for my 6.0. They have CI-4 oils in their Heavy Duty Lube line. Castrol HDL There is a dino oil called Castrol Tection Extra that exceeds API CI-4. They also have full synthetic and synthetic blends. No I am not a Castrol distributor.
I sent an email from their website and found the local distributor and I can order it and pick it up at the local parts store.
