Yeah my Ram had some crazy low mileage intervals on the diffs in the late 2000s.

Ford does just use RTV.

Figured as much.
Been considering changing the diff lube, may be time, only has 210K miles on original lube.
Looking around, and found that Victor makes a reusable metal core gasket for the F250 axle, https://danaproparts.com/i-30497975-...ntial-gaskets-

You can get Lube Locker reusable diff gaskets for some of the Ford Differentials, but not for the Dana M300.

Tech support said not needed, as the Severe Gear has plenty of it in the oil already. No chattering or noises from the rear diff since adding the AmsOil.
I'm due to do my 450 rear diff pretty soon. I assume it's a pretty straight forward job?

Looks like my truck has the 12-bolt 10.25/10.5 sterling axle.
Lube-Locker makes a gasket for it, but I had one of their gaskets for my RAM trans pan and didn't like it, very weak and flimsy IMO.
The victor gasket seems much more substantial, they only offer it for the sterling axle in the super duty, so no help for the HD 3/4-ton or 1-ton crowd.

For the OP, if you want to do the gear lube change yourself, this is a great deal on the synthetic GL5 75w140 gear lube you will need.
https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...r-oil-api-gl-5

I ordered the 75w90 lube for mine there.

Just suck it out or drain it if any doubt about gaskets.

Yeah it has a drain plug. I think it takes 3.8 qts. Open the fill plug, open the drain plug bolt at the very bottom of the cover, walk away for a little while because its slow, put drain plug in, put the limited slip additive into the fill hole, and then the rest of the limited slip additive in the 2nd quart to go in (bad angle). Then any residual of the second quart into the third quart bottle.

At the end you should have .2 quart left because you can’t get all the fluid out because of the angle, just check on the third quart because you dont want to over fill it, use the exact amount or it will cavitate. I would trust myself over an oil lube tech at Ford to put the right amount in.

I used the offbrand stuff from Oreilly and Ford additive.

It is. Remove the fill plug, then remove the bolt on the bottom of the diff cover that is marked drain and drain the diff. Let it drain a while, reinstall the drain bolt and refill it. The Dana M300 takes around 4.3 to 4.5 quarts to refill. Depending on which fluid you use you, you will not need to add friction modifier (Amsoil doesn't require friction modifier, can't say for others).

I've used Lube Locker differential gaskets on a few different vehicles and never had an issue, but I guess any products can have issues. I have a set sitting in the Garage right now to install on my Jeep JK Rubicon once I get time to do it.

I just ordered the Victor gasket, supposed to be here tomorrow.
It was pretty close to the same price as the Lube-Locker.
The real deal I got was on the gear lube, full synthetic for 19.99 for a gallon, used to pay about $14 a quart, so way less expensive.

I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a fluid pump for about $10 that screwed onto quart and gallon cap threads. The only issue with the Harbor Freight one is that it only pumps 1oz per pump. You will get a forearm workout but it beats paying the stealership.

Is the Victor gasket reusable? I'll have to check them out. Was the gear lube the Tractor Supply oil?

Yeah, the Victor gasket is reusable with an aluminum core, with a coating and has a rubber sealing bead, got mine off amazon.
But, they only offer them for the Sterling axle in the F250 on a super duty.
And, yes, tractor supply sells the gear lube online, not in stores, there is a link in one of my previous posts.
