Help figuring out correct rear driveshaft replacement?
Rear driveshaft broke on my 97 F350 single cab 8' bed auto 4x4 7.3 recently. Have a replacement lined up but I am trying to figure out if this one will work on my truck. Both of our trucks are 97 F350 single cab 8' bed 4x4 auto & both wheelbases are the same, so I would think the lengths match up. Although looking at the VIN tags my truck has a 'C5' axle code and his has a '39' axle code. Is anybody able to tell me what each code indicates for the rear axles & if the rear driveshaft would work on my truck?
The axle code mainly describes the gear ratio. If the rest of the truck is the same, I would think the driveshaft would be a direct replacement. Are both transmissions the same code on the door sticker?

axle code simply tells you what gear ratio the truck left the factory with.
your truck with C5 code means you have 4.10 limited slip differential, his truck with 39 code means he has 3.55 open rear differential.
driveshafts will be the same length unless something was added between trans and rear axle on one of the trucks..
