I had to put the 3 wire cam shaft sensor from the 97 4.0 ohv into the 99 4.0 ohv. I didn’t have the cap tool. I watched a couple videos that showed the position that the C portion needed to be in. For this one the open portion of the C is perpendicular to the block facing driver side. I broke a paint stick in a couple pieces and had some thin wood, maybe 1/16” thick. Add 2 pieces of these to the paint stir sticks pieces and that locked it in pretty good. I was able to place it in the hole and and keep it clocked correctly.
Most auto-parts stores around me have the fixture in their no cost "Loan-A-Tool" program. Absent that, any port in a storm!!! Good to hear & see your field expediency worked for you!!
