Block heater question
Block heater question
New to me truck I have the original window sticker.
It has the rapid heat supplemental heater. I checked up by the license plate trying to see if I have the block heater?

pretty sure the rapid heat supplemental heater is just an electrical element that kicks on while the truck is cold - it is not the same as the block heater or as far as I know tied to it? The is similar to emergency heating in the southern US where a wildly inefficient eletrical heating element will help heat when heat pump is not producing enough heat to warm or sustain.
If your looking for the electrical cord for the factory block heater...then its normally tucked away behind the bumper passenger side.
It’s nice that you got the original sticker with it. If the truck came with a block heater it will be listed as an option on your window sticker. They were not standard equipment even on the diesel. If it was added later the cord should be where the others have mentioned.
Before buying a cord, check to make sure the original wasn’t cut off as part of a prior recall. At one point that was the “fix” for an electrical gremlin associated with the block heater. I really don’t know if Ford ever provided a new block heater or a real fix.

There was a recall on the cords where they replaced them, then another recall(?) where they removed them If I remember correctly. I had them replace my cord, then a couple weeks later the service manager called and wanted me to bring it back to remove the cord. I never took it back.
If you search for “Ford block heater cord” you will find both elements and cords. When I bought a used 2006 it didn’t have the cord but did have the element. I bought an aftermarket cord, I think, seemed to work fine. Didn’t use it much being I live in CA.
Good luck,
Mike

I don't think that's always the case; my 2022 F350 XLT 6.7PSD has the block heater and there is nothing on the window sticker. The only thing listed is the PTC Supplemental Heater at no cost. I think trucks ordered in areas that are considered "cold climates" get the PTC and the block heater standard.

Supplemental heater is a separate option, and includes the dual alternators.
My understanding on the actual heater is that like the RAM Cummins, the heater is in all the 6.7 PSD engines, and when you option the cold weather package they then include the cord installation.
It may come with some packages or the Canadian orders. But still it’s an option I’ve never noticed a cold weather package on the build and price. I have seen the block heater option.
It was a $95 option on my truck and on the sticker and I’ve seen a bunch of stickers that had it. Maybe that changed at some point.

I do not have pictures for you but its generally on the passenger side of the block above the starter motor. Normally in place of a standard freeze plug.
