I am just now starting on my project truck. I am in the process of grinding the bolts that hold the bed down, so I can take it down to the frame. My question is: Suppose I am going to paint the truck a "Blue" what do you think would be the best color for the frame? And Should I paint the frame with a gun or will a rattle-can suffice? Also another option is to Rhino Lining the frame and possibly do it in a custom color. Any input is greatly appreciated.
well black if you just want rust protection, or you could do a blue to match the truck. red or yellow to contrast the body and accentuate the frame might look cool on a built 4x4
I agree with Torque1st, I've heard only good things about por-15, and they make a bunch of other products too (body putty, engine paint, etc.) I plan on using it to paint my frame in a couple months.
Has anyone come across a high-temp clearcoat? I've been looking for quite awhile to no avail. Want my block and heads the Iron color but without rusting. Thanks
I saw a side by side comparision of POR15 and Rust Encapsulater from Eastwood in Auto Restorers. They concluded that the Rust encapsulater went on easier and held up to weather thatn POR15. I believe it was in the October 2003 issue. let me know if you wish to see it.
I would do the frame in black POR15. Check out heir website at www.por15.com/ . They have all your needs covered. They even have a clearcoat I believe.
Paint your frame a neat color. I painted mine with Endura High Build epoxy and then painted it with Jade green metallic. Did the diffs. and drive shafts. too. Why not?
I'd use epoxy myself but the Line-X stuff is tought as nails and you can get it in any color you want.
Kewl.

Well how much POR-15 do you think it would cost to do up my frame? And then I should be able to paint over top of that with whatever color I want right?
A couple of quarts should cover just about anything underneath you would want painted. To put on a top coat you must do so in a certain window of time (chech the label) or it will be necessary to scuff up the por for good adhesion.
Thank You for your replies keep them coming. I finally broke the bed loose from the frame. It seems the @#$@#$% idiot that owned the truck before my cousin welded the bed to the frame. which wouldn't be a really big deal if the bed was the one that was meant to be on the truck it is a 86 bed on a 76 frame.I will probably just buy a couple quarts of the por. I cant wait to get started on the frame.
