Intermittent reverse gear
Putting this rig back together after swapping the motor from a351m to a fresh built 400. Got it started and broken in a few weeks ago but have noticed that I can’t seem to find reverse intermittently. Filled some extra trans fluid and seemed to work but again intermittently win lose it again. From what I’m reading, there’s no reverse band so I’m thinking maybe a valve body issue. 79 f150 with a c6. Using dex/merc which I’ve read is the correct fluid over type F. Dip stick reading full. Vacuum modulator shouldn’t have an impact, correct?
Any thoughts? forward gears work fine.

Low pressure from a leaky seal while in reverse makes the most sense.
