We're looking to upgrade the radio in the 1993 F250. I like the Android Auto in my other vehicle, so was interested in going that route. I was perusing the options at Crutchfield. They have these floating head unit options where a pretty giant touch screen attaches onto a stem coming out from the normal radio opening. The install looks to be pretty simple, but it might look kind of ridiculous with a Tesla style screen in the old truck. The other options entail some level of modification ("modify the subdash") which I'm trying to get details about. Anyway, I'd be curious to see any pics of installs and experiences with installations.
I thought about this as I plan on using my F150 as a family cottage cruiser after I'm done rebuilding it. Decided against it for for a few reasons: giant screen in the dash screams steal me, the head unit will become obsolete in a couple of years, and my phone will do everything it does and stays up to date by virtue of being replaced regularly. Decided on a Pioneer head unit with a decent built-in amp, Bluetooth connectivity and no CD deck. Phone sits in a cradle and connects to the head unit for audio only.

I'd like to do something similar. Can you share specs, photos, etc?
I've had this kit installed for about almost 4 years now. With no issues. I also ride on very stiff 10 lug wheels with tires meant for a dump truck, meaning my truck dies not ride like a Cadillac. So if my dash hasn't fallen out/broken on my jalopy, I'd imagine it'd be fine in anyone else's too.
