My 47 FORD BIG TRUCK (Comm) has both wires to one side of ignition resistor. This was done prior to my purchase. Why would one bypass this and what if anything does this resistor do? I have ordered a new one and would like to straighten this out. Any assistance with this resistance would be great. Thanks, Slighty Stupid
On most of the Ford ignitions there is one wire that feeds the coil, unresricted, from the starter solinoid in order to give it more juice durring startup, and then because the coil cannot take this high voltage constantly (or else it will explode or boil up the insides) the power to the coil is regulated at all other times.
The way I hooked up mine on the '52 when I did it from sctratch is to put the 'constant' wire on one end of the resistor and then the 'startup' and the 'to the coil' wire on the other end. I did that just to make the engine compartment one wire cleaner.
