Is the plug between the fuel pump and the oil filter where people are talking about putting in an oil line ? I looks to be a 3/8 pipe plug maybe 1/4 " ? My oil pressure sending unit is now on the back of the block and I get the same pressure with a mechanical gauge and the electric sending unit.
Yes, that is the oil passage from the filter to the right-side lifter gallery. There was a modification used on high RPM 351C's mostly, that ran a hose from that gallery to the rear of the block where the oil pressure sender goes. The thinking was it would get more even oil pressure in the right-side lifter gallery which is where all the oil is fed to the mains. Whether it actually did any good is anybody's guess. The only modification I've ever done to a 335 series engine that actually improved the oil pressure was installing lifter bushings.
Are you having oil pressure problems?
Not so much but at start up the gauge reads close to 100 (digital gauge ) . After warm up it will run around 20 to 30 at around 2000 rpm at idle will be close to nothing. No lifter noise or any other clicking or clacking. I just do not feel comfortable with it so consequently I don't go far from home. Then again I figure if it blows it blows just get another motor. It is in my 55 f-100 so not a daily driver. I would like to keep the same motor 400 since you don't see a lot of them in the fat fender trucks. Heaven forbid a chevy in it. I don't want a 302 or 351w since I see them all the time in these trucks.
Normal oil pressure should be 50-70 @ 2000 rpm hot. You are down some, but that isn't unusual for 335 engines with some miles on them. Short of rebuilding it you could try a high-volume oil pump that might supply enough extra oil to make up for the leaks in there. I'm not a big fan of using thick oil to make up for low pressure but it works. Only problem with thick oil 15W-50 or 20W-50 is the extra wear at start up on a cold day.
The 351C I'm running in my truck has lifter bushings and it will hold 75 PSI @ 2000 hot with 10W-30 oil.
I think that you're going to have to rebuild the engine to fix the problem. Most of the time low hot oil pressure problems come from having too much bearing clearance somewhere in the engine but usually it's the main bearings. The clearances you're shooting for are .002 rods and mains.
The stock oiling system is fine for about 99.9% of all builds and really only needs modification in a racing situation where as pointed out by Crop Duster it is best done by bushing the lifter bores to plug the leaks.
I'd try a different gauge before I got carried away. I've had sereral 351m/400s and typically You might see 80# cold and about 25# hot at idle. they don't hold as much idle pressure as small block chevy.
I have seen some 400's on Market Place and am going to look at them. I will have it rebuilt so I can pull and replace with out having to wait. I will have the Tim Myer oil trick done with the block all apart.

if both are right, they should agree.
Since about 1993, mine has been "teed" on the block with the original electrical sender behind the intake manifold.
