I have a 94 5.0 auto , auto 4x4 bronco with a factory replaced tranny & transfer case and rebuilt factory rear 3.55 traction lok. 2 times this past week while hunting I could not get through mud/snow, etc.... while other 4x4's (ranger/explorer could)? I have owned this vehicle for a year now and have noticed how badly it does in the snow/mud? It has fairly new tires with good tread (regul tires-trail something-crappy brand 31x10.5x15). I have had two explorer sports that would easily outperform this bronco in 4x4?
While backing out of the snow a person behind me noticed the front wheels spinning but the rear only turning slightly before I started to move (he could only see one rear wheel though).
-I assumed a traction lok would spin both rear wheels right?
-are my tires that crappy that a new set of better tires would make a big difference? any recommendations?
-could there possibly be an issue with the tranny or xfer case that would cause only the front wheels to turn?
thats strange, when my bronco was stock with the street tires which have really tame treads, i was able to get thru some pretty deap mud in 4 wheel. i can't imagion why you would be getting showed up by an exploder
with an open rear in the front, when one tires starts to spin, it will actually be going twice as fast, so the rears may look like they are spinning half the speed of the front one tires. As for your reasons for getting stuck so easily seems to be mysterious. My broncos have always been fairly good at not getting stuck. crappy tires could make a bit of a difference, but it doesnt sound like these rangers/explorers had any better tires, yet they 'showed you up'. if its really soupy, the extra weight may have made you sink a little bit more, but it seems like something else may be wrong. Given a bit of throttle and speed, the bronco should make it through at least as much as any ranger/explorer. Are there any other problems you are experiencing with your truck?
i would recommend some new tires also. the right tires do make a big difference. never go cheap when it comes to tires. i personally recommend BF Goodrich or Goodyear.

Broncos do well, but they are heavy, so they need mean tires.
I concur...
Last week while i was hunting/camping, my buddy in his f/s dodge 275 75r had to lock his in 4x4 to get to the other side of a short bogg.........i have A/T 32x11.50 bfg's that i consider whimpy and made it to other side in 2x4

Same here, i ripped some shizat up late week.
Including my rear bumper when droping into some big holes....
But my bronco has no probs at all, i was quite susprised!
I guess I will try some new tires....I was thinking michelin or bf goodrich. Will a 31x11.5x15 fit on the stock rim or should I stay with the 31x10.5x15?
The regul trailblazers on it now have a lot of tread left but the tread looks like a car tire!
Hi, I think your problem is that you have open differentials. Look at the sticker on the driver side door panel. There is a little box that says axle code. Under it should be two numbers or letters. Tell me what it says and I will let you know if you have open or locking differentials.
Also if you want to get new tires a good street/off-road tire is the BFGoodrich All-Terrain. If you want some real diggers get the BFGoodich Mud-Terrrain!!

Your Trac Lok sounds suspect. It should have Trak Lok front and back. Are you your you got a factory rebuilt Trac Lok rather than an open?
Sooo stay away from Michelins for wheeling. The BFG MTs would be a good choice.
Stay witht e 31x10.5 ON stock rims you will get just a little bit of rub but only at extreme full turn. Go bigger and you may have bigger probs. As for tire type, I have run all sorts of tires and I have found that the BFGs AT/KOs work the best for my truck. I go wheeling, snow, mud, rock and sand. Never been stuck.
