No crank🤦‍♂️

Hi everybody.
First off, i'm no mechanic.Haa! We have a 2010 e250 van with the 4.8 motor.Havn't had any trouble at all until now.Went to start it the other day and nothing. No crank at all.Lights in the dash do come on and i can hear the fuel pump cut in and some kind of a click but thats it.Now it was parked in a steep driveway and i had the wheels turned across and had to fight with the steering wheel a bit to get the key to turn, not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.So far i've tested the starter and solenoid and they are both good, replaced the neutral switch on the transmission, checked fuses and relays.Starting to bug me now.lol! And to make things worse my code reader says it can't communicate with the vehicle. Now also, the anti theft light is blinking...think thats what it's called and it's showing all ------ where the kms should be.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No crank, no starts, PATS light flashing.....are signs there is a problem with PATS.

Here's a video explaining PATS

Troubleshooting these types of problems requires a good scan tool, system electrical drawings and some knowledge. Since your code reader can't communicate there may be a problem with the network or instrument cluster (where PATS resides).

Maybe someone has a clever way to diagnose this, but I'm no expert and I would have to start with checking the network communication and see if the IPC and PCM can communicate with a good scan tool like Forscan. I think replacing the IPC requires PATS to be programmed/initialized. The PATS transceiver (located in the steering column) can be replaced without programming PATS since its just an antenna that reads the key code.

Thank you sir for your detailed reply. This sounds like it is going to be fun.lol! Would replacing the instrument cluster with a new one solve the problem possibly?

I don't know how common it is for these IPCs to fail. Search the forum to see what others have experienced. Programming PATS on a 2010 can be done with Forscan but it's complicated and you need two original keys.

Have you tried re initializing the truck?
Meaning disconnect the battery for a few minutes
Then after reconnecting, unlock the drivers door with the key
Unlock both front doors with the key in case one of the door latch switches is faulty
Code test after that if it still won't start
A Pats malfunction will set a code

Yes sir.Have tried that as well with no luck. But i guess my biggest problem is when i plug in my code reader, it says it can not communicate with the vehicle.Any idea as to why that may be happening? Thanks for the reply.

A recent post in another sub forum brings up the possibility of the fuel pump inertia switch as being a source of the non-start. See if the switch has been tripped.

So, better grab a few 2010 service manuals and go over the no communications with the scan tool / bus power or no codes outputted sub routine
Gonna take some digging around
I'd start with power and ground distribution diagrams in the EVTM and make sure the self test connector has its power
What scan tool are you using?

Related to the Inertial Fuel Shutoff switch (IFS), on every implementation I've ever seen of IFS on Fords the IFS removes power from the fuel pump (or fuel pump module) so, while it would cause a no start, it wouldn't create a no crank condition.

That being said, does the OP's 2010 E-250 even have an IFS? There is an IFS on the wiring diagrams up to 2008 but not on the 2009 or 2010 diagrams.

I have a 2009 E-250 and, in case of a future no start condition, I don't want to look for an IFS if there isn't one!
