I'll have to look next time I drive Shrek my 66 F100... I want to say around 2050-2150, but I could be off.. last Nov. I was going to fly from Fresno to KC Mo for my lil'sis' 40th surprise b-day party, I forget what happened, but my flight out of Fresburg was canc'd, they were able to get me out of Bakefield, so I filled up and hopped on the 99 S, got there, made my flight, got back, hit the 99 N, stopped about an hour in, wizzed and filled up, penciled it out and was almost 19, mind you, this one is stock 1bbl/intake and exh and IIRC 2.25 or 2.5" with a little 12" glass pack out behind the pass. tire. When I'm running around town up here in the mtns, he drops accordingly, usually 13-14ish, but down to fresburg and back nets a nice 17- 18.
FME, finding the sweet spot in the R's for your engine is key, when I had the 3.00's he was a dog and always working hard, so bad, I bought a 302 to rplc the 240 he originally had thinking it was just dunfor and needed a rebuild, turns out his gearing was off, swapped in the 3.70's, whole new truck and fun to drive, only rplc'd the 240 with a 300 I had as his valve guides were shot and he left a nice blue trail going downhill.

81 F100 flare side, 4x2, 300> Advance Adapter over drive> NP435> 2.75 rear gear> 235 x 75R x 15
In over drive at 70 MPH I turn 1800 RPM in direct it is 2500 RPM
BTW back when the truck was built the max speed limit was 55 MPH and in 1:1 the RPM was 1800 same as my 70 MPH RPM in over drive

Man I have got to check back here more often. Alot of new info since the last time I was in here. There is quite a bit of talk of camshafts. What I am considering is what we used to call an economy camshaft. It moves your torque band down so it peeks at between 1500 and 2000 RPM they are great for pulling as long as you have a tall overdrive. because they fall on their face over 3000. I want that low RPM power then add a mild boost to get the towing power I need. The first pickup I bought was a 77 F150 had a 300 with a 3sp column shift. The guy I bought it from was the son of the original owner. Had custom ordered it with a 4.11 locker. That truck could pull a freight train uphill, but get it up to 70 and you thought the engine was going to blow, I never should have sold that truck.

The following roller cam will give you all the low rpm torque you need.
The Load Master... FORD 300 6 CYL. HYD ROLLER CAM .480/.480 256/260 204/208@.050 110 LSA WITH 4 DEGREE OF ADVANCE THE LOADMASTER BRUTAL TORQ FROM 1200 TO 3800 RPM CAN BE USED WITH OEM STALL POWER RANGE FROM 1500-4800 RPM
Then we use a ported big valve head like the Promaxx CNC head to extend the power band above 3000 rpm giving you an extremely wide power band.
A 390 or 450 cfm 4 barrel or an Aces 2 barrel TBI system on one of the aftermarket intakes along with the EFI exhaust manifolds would finish off the package.
Straub Technologies can supply you with all of the camshaft components along with a properly completed Promaxx head.
1977 I bought a brand new F100 short bed with a 300 6 cylinder 3 speed on the column and 350 gear , best I could get was 11 miles a gallon had hard starting took it back to the dealer 13 times in 12,000 miles and then the warranty run out so I went down to junkyard and pulled a intake & exhaust manifold and the carburetor off of a 66 Ford car with a 240 in it and bolted it right on there rebuilt the carburetor and she started getting 16 miles a gallon would burn rubber in first and second. and then it would pull a stock trailer with two full-size horses in it wouldn't do that before with the air pump crap
If you know the gear ratio, tire size and MPH (use your phone or GPS not the trucks unless you know 100% it is on the money)
Then find on line a auto math site and plug that info in and it will give the RPM for the speed entered. RPM/MPH From Gear Ratio Calculator by Wallace Racing
