Crankshaft

Needing a new crankshaft for a 2000 model. Any ideas? No where I checked seems to have them.

Are you needing a NEW crankshaft, a reman crankshaft, or another crankshaft? New I doubt exists, reman and used replacements are available. A quick search showed Kill Devil Diesel sells remans, and for used, eBay is king there I'm sure.

Would prefer new, but reman will probably have to work.

I'd have no problem buying used so long as it came out of a running engine that saw some semblance of regular maintenance. The journals are HARD. I have a crank out of a 970K (yes, almost million-mile) engine that I would have no problem putting in a rebuild.

Not me, previous owner. Leading theory is that when they replaced the clutch, the didn’t put the pilot bushing back in, causing play on the input shaft. All ten flywheel bolts broke inside the crank. Egg shaped some of the holes, crank is not salvageable.

that crank is definitely a goner.

I don't see a way to fix that, unless a good welder fills the holes and rebores them.

Definitely gonna replace it. Cause I want it fixed correctly. And that’s the only way that I know that is gonna happen.

Yes. I ended up taking it to a mechanic, the got the bolts out, then determined that the crank couldn’t be saved.

thats rough. he could not go with longer threaded grade 10 or 12 bolts? i remember reading somewhere there is a bit of depth in those holes that the stock bolts do not reach. not sure what the grade is on the stock bolts, but a 10, or 12.7 is pretty stout compared to what you normally see on light vehicles.
