Does this sound normal?
I was checking my tire pressure this morning with my engine running and I noticed a spray of fuel or oil coming out of the exhaust pipe. It was a single shot, and splattered on my driveway. Not much fluid.....maybe 1 or 2 tablespoons worth. It only seemed to happen that one time. It was about 50 degrees at the time and I just started my truck about 3 to 4 minutes earlier. I've also noticed that my engine consumes oil at the rate of 1/2 qt for every 1200 to 1500 miles. Is this normal? Or may I have more seriousl problem on my hands?
Run your fingers around the inside of your tailpipe and you'll find a lot of black soot. That soot mixed with condenstation from inside the exhaust system will splutter out once in awhile, leaving what you saw, I'd bet.
Your oil consumption is identical to mine, about 1 quart every oil change and I don't worry about it.
Thanks for the CPR guys! (I think I started going into cardiac arrest when I read "Itfox's" post.) Condensatoin makes sense....the conditions were about right for water to collect in the tailpipe.
