Ok, so I changed my filters a week ago and for some reason the frame mounted filter is leaking. I tightened the bolts upon re-installing the new filter and everything was good until I drove it and parked it. It leaked overnight so i got under the truck and gave each bolt a little more of a twist to ensure I didn't miss one. Cleaned everything off and then the next day I drove it and it was fine. the day after that it was leaking again so I decided to fully remove the housing and double check to make sure the gasket was seated properly and that it wasn't pinched/torn, etc. I re-tightened the bolts and it was fine for a day and a half. I tightened the bolts to the point where I am afraid if i tighten any more, that they will strip out.
I hate the thought of having to buy another filter set just for the damn gasket. Is there anything else I can try?
Was it a genuine Motorcraft filter set? If not, and it was an aftermarket kit, it's possible that the gasket may be sub-par (and filter suspect, as well, IMO).
If it ends up being the gasket you won't have any option but to buy a new kit to get one, as I'm sure that Ford only provides that gasket with the kit.

Yes it is a genuine Motorcraft filter and that's what bugs me because the cost is excessive for what it is.

I thought the same thing, but I did look closely and the housing is not compromised. My gut tells me the gasket is the issue since the leak comes through the bolt holes which sit outside of the gasket sealed area.
I think I will remove the "new" gasket and reuse the old gasket as I still have it in the shop and see if that works. If not, I guess I will order another filter set

Yeah, I always have extra gaskets just for this reason, although I have never had need of them.
As a matter of fact, I have been using the same old gasket on mine for probably 6 or 8 filter changes, totally re-usable.
Of course, now I have jinxed myself and it will leak next time!
@Great Danes If you were around my neck of the woods, I would be happy to give you a new gasket.

LOL, thanks for the offer! I do still have my old one so will pop it in tomorrow. I have often wondered why they provide new ones each time as they are quite durable.
