Ac hose question
On the suction line ac hose there is an integrated "canister" that appears to likely be a built in filter dryer. Can any of you confirm it as such, or, does it serve as an accumulator to prevent liquid refrigerant from slugging the compressor?
Addendum: I have finally found the answer. The item in question, supposedly is a "muffler" used to quiet the ac, or so a person at a local Ford dealer told me. I am replacing this ac line so I will do an autopsy on the old line to confirm the claim.
The section of the hose in question is obviously an accumulator type device that allows liquid refrigerant to convert to vapor before entering the compressor. It is nothing but a hollow compartment (I opened it to see) and those are nothing more than an expansion chamber that briefly lowers refrigerant pressure as it expands within the chamber thus allowing it to transition to vapor.
